Specialist Psychiatrist in Cape Town
Thoughtful psychiatric care for children, teens and adults, with experience in ADHD, autism, mood and anxiety disorders. Compassionate, evidence based care in a calm and professional setting.
Hi, I am Dr Mwanja Chundu (she/her). I am a specialist psychiatrist in private practice in Cape Town, South Africa.
All you need to know about me
Much of my work is with people who have spent a long time feeling misunderstood, overlooked or out of step with what is expected of them. This includes children, adolescents and young adults, as well as adults navigating emotional, cognitive or identity related challenges.
My approach is grounded in evidence-based psychiatry and shaped by curiosity, care and respect for individual experience. I am interested in understanding how a person thinks, feels and functions in their daily life, rather than focusing only on symptoms or diagnoses.
How I can help
Psychiatric care that is collaborative and thoughtful. I offer comprehensive psychiatric assessments and ongoing treatment that follow these parameters.
- Non-judgemental and compassionate
- Collaborative, with shared decision-making
- Informed by current scientific evidence
- Respectful of neurodiversity and gender diversity

Areas of focus
I see children, teens, young adults and adults, including people who identify as neurodivergent, trans or gender diverse.
My approach
Evidence-Led Care
My clinical work is guided by current psychiatric research and established best practice. I regularly update my knowledge and skills to ensure assessments and treatment decisions reflect current scientific evidence.
Individualised Care
Scientific evidence provides a foundation rather than a formula. Treatment choices are made carefully, taking into account the individual’s needs, values and stage of life.
Inclusive Practice
I recognise and respect diversity in all its forms, including neurodiversity, gender identity, culture, and visible or invisible disabilities and differences in ability.
Human Focused
People are more than their diagnoses. My role is to support strengths, address difficulties and help individuals move toward a more manageable and meaningful life.
